about

"I wrote this song after a youth week at Sylvan Lake Baha'i Centre in Alberta, Canada when I was 17 years old. During the week at camp, we studied stories from the history of the Baha'i Faith with a focus on the heroic stories of the immense sacrifice and struggle that many of the early believers faced. I am so thrilled and excited that I can now, 15 years later, share these inspired lyrics with the world. I hope that other Baha'i youth out there who are currently 17 will be inspired to study those stories which are what confirmed me in my faith." -Karim

lyrics

Chords: Em, C, D

Verse 1:

I take a deep breath, and face each step
I wanna release the souls that aint free yet
If you believe it, then you can see it
This is more real than nothing the world’s seen yet
Hold up, this is the truth and it won’t fold up
I told ya, man don’t pack a nine
Because the holster is too weak to blast Divine
So just relax on the criminal acts
Because I’m feeling healin’
Until the whole world sees it
Cruisin’ and boozin’ they choose what we’re doin’
Clueless of who’s in our groups and our crews
It’s reducin’ spirit for an image that’s useless
Conducive thoughts to destroy the light
So I don’t know what it’s like to make a real sacrifice
Like Anis Zunuzi and Mullah Husayn
Full of pain when I picture Baha’u’llah in chains
Early Babi’s raising the call is SiyaChal
If I was there, then would I fall?
Or would I stand strong in the darkest pit?
Would I pray to God until my heart was lit?
In Him let the trusting trust X3

Verse 2:

Raise a brand new banner - black standard
Ya Sahib’u’Zaman! That’s what they can’t hurt
Nine holes dug in his skin
And with his own hands placed each candle within
Not a trace of terror or cry of pain
Cut in two with a hatchet to praise His name
Forever his love within my chest
And forever in my mind his sizzling flesh:
Suleyman Khan

Verse 3:

Bear witness - the power of youth
312 meditate with Quddus
The praise that they’re givin’
will help raise up their spirits and
Fort Tabarsi take the Shah’s army
Hardly a threat - 12,000; correct
Against all odds, not afraid of death
Now sure I’ve got tests that I haven’t faced yet
But why am I able to take a breath?
When the early believers didn’t hesitate to leave us
Gave their life as a teacher to put light in us creatures
We got ice for a nice price
What about a priceless soul?
We put our love in the things that we like to hold
And keep close,
But my heart is His home
And He lives in my blood and bones

Outro:

When I breathe, I breathe to believe
I breathe for the things that we easily leave
I breathe for oneness, I believe in the people
I breathe for Baha’u’llah, come and destroy evil
I breathe for the things that we easily leave
I breathe for oneness, I believe in the people
I breathe for Baha’u’llah
